Joe Kaplowitz started playing music professionally at the age of 15 in Washington, USA. After that, he plays with recognized names of the American blues and jazz scene. Some of them are: Eddie Daniels, James Moody, Ernie Guilt, Greg Bandy, Randy Jonston, Wycliff Gordan, Ralph Bowen, and Sean Jones, Mark Rapp and others. Joe also performed with David “Fathead” Newman and blues legend Koko Taylor and Lucky Peterson. After 1999, Joe led bands performing in the White House, and clubs Blues Alley, The Knitting Factory, and The House of Blues. From 2002 to 2004, Joe lived in New York City, where he founded the Joe Kap Organ Trio (Joe Kap Organ Trio "Street Noise", Severn Records, 2004) and performed in many famous venues and maintained a long-standing collaboration with trumpet player Mark Rapp.
In 2006 he moved to Croatia where he performed with many Croatian musicians, and is the husband of jazz singer Lela Kaplowitz.
In 2011 he became a member of the Simply Brass classical music quintet with which he plays the tuba, and with them he has the honor of performing at the Juilliard in New York in early October 2012 and in 2013 at the University of Quebec, Canada.
In 2013 and 2015, he won the Status Award - for jazz music, piano and tuba. Since 2014, he has been a regular member of the Jazz Orchestra of the Croatian Radio and Television, for which he also writes arrangements and compositions.
